The Ledyard Building: RedLine’s new location

The Ledyard Building: RedLine’s new downtown office

The Ledyard Building is RedLine’s new home. Located at 125 Ottawa Avenue NW in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Ledyard Building is the city’s second oldest commercial building. It is owned by CWD Real Estate Investment and is home to multiple businesses, including economic development company The Right Place and Italian restaurant Tre Cugini.

Why the move? Well, like many businesses, RedLine needed a physical location in a downtown area for both visibility and credibility. We’re lucky to know Chris Atwater of Michigan Commercial Space Advisors; Chris was instrumental in helping us find the right location in downtown Grand Rapids.

The move to the Ledyard Building puts us in a desirable location where local clients can easily find us. It also lets clients in other cities see that we’re a company of professionals. After all, wouldn’t you prefer that your vendor operate out of a downtown office than in some undefined “virtual” office?

The Ledyard Building: History

The Ledyard Building was built in 1874, making it almost 150 years old. (We’re happy to report that the wiring and plumbing have been updated since the Reconstruction era.) The word on the street is that in its early days, the building housed a brothel. But since I can’t find any reference to this history, I’m beginning to doubt the story.

The Ledyard Building: Surroundings

With its prime downtown location, the Ledyard Building gets to play neighbor to many well-known companies, restaurants, universities, and cultural attractions in Grand Rapids. Madcap Coffee Company and Big O’ Cafe are just outside our building, and in a few minutes, you can be at Leo’s, Reserve Wine and Food, or the B.O.B.

We’re right across the street from the Grand Rapids Art Museum and Rosa Parks Circle. The Ledyard Building is a stone’s throw from the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum and the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre.

It’s a five-minute walk to the Van Andel Arena, San Chez, Grand Rapids Brewing Company, Bar Divani, and HopCat.

Kendall College of Art and Design, Davenport University, and Grand Rapids Community College are all in the downtown area.

Just across the river from us is Grand Valley State University’s Pew Campus, where the Van Andel Global Trade Center makes its home. RedLine has sponsored several events put on by the VAGTC; the organization is a trusted and valuable business partner in the community.

Need a place to stay while you’re in town on business? Try the Amway Grand Plaza or the JW Marriott, home to the high-end dining establishment six.one.six. (Try it—The food is out of this world.)
