Bedroom Makeovers on a Budget

If you’re interested in a bedroom makeover, but don’t have a lot of money to accomplish it, you may think you’re stuck with the bedroom just as it is. But this is not the case. Bedroom makeovers can be accomplished with just a few small changes that will make a tremendous impact on the room without a tremendous impact on your bank account.

One of the first things you may think of when you think of a bedroom makeover is to repaint. Although paint can be rather expensive, you can find great deals if you know where and how to look. Many paint and home improvement stores have an “oops” or mis-mixed paint section. Paint that was mixed incorrectly for previous customers is sold here, often for as little as $5 a gallon. If you can find a color that you like and you only need one gallon, “oops” paint is a great bargain. If you need multiple gallons, the store can color match the “oops” paint for you. You will have to pay full price for those gallons, but you will at least have major savings on one gallon.

If you’re thinking of replacing the flooring during your bedroom makeover, you should consider buying a new area rug instead. An area rug can update the look of your floor and possibly cover stains or worn areas as well, and it is much cheaper than a whole new floor. If you feel you must replace the floor, consider doing it yourself to save money.

Bedding is one area where many people go over the budget in a bedroom makeover. If you’ve changed your wall color, you may find it necessary to change your bedding to match. But if you have even a little sewing talent, you can cut your bedding expenses drastically. For instance, throw pillows to coordinate with most bedding sets can be bought ready-made, but they are often quite expensive. Your local craft store should sell pillow forms in a variety of shapes and sizes and fabric to coordinate with nearly any bedding set. Make your own covers for the pillow forms, and you will save a bundle. Many crafts stores also run sales on fabric or offer coupons for as much as 40 percent off one item from time to time. Keep an eye out for these sales and coupons, and your savings will be even greater.

Finally, one of the most inexpensive ways to change the look of your bedroom is by changing the lighting. If you currently use clear light bulbs in your light fixtures, you may find the bedroom lighting is too bright and harsh. Replacing these bulbs with soft white ones will lessen the glare and make your bedroom appear much softer and more welcoming.

By thinking outside the box, you can easily come up with many ways to accomplish a bedroom makeover without going broke in the process. Not only will you save money, but your creativity and therefore your personality will shine through in your finished bedroom, making it a wonderful, restful haven for you to enjoy.
