A bacterium known as Propionibacteriun acnes causes inflammation in any skin pore that is blocked by sebum. The bacterium breaks down the sebum and causes inflammation. If the infection is superficial, acne is visible on the skin. Excessive sugar levels in the blood causes the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum and it is this excessive sebum that inflames the hair follicles that soon turns into acne.
Chromium has an atomic element number of 24. It is considered a trace element, and in the body it assists the breakdown of fats and protein. It is also responsible for producing certain enzymes. Chromium also controls the insulin and thus regulates the sugar level in the body. It is estimated that 90 percent of people suffering from acne also exhibit excessive sugar levels in the blood. Our body recognizes the presence of insulin very quickly and chromium takes part in helping to metabolize this insulin. A sufficiency of chromium in the body helps to maintain a constant sugar level.
Chromium is found in a lot of items that are part of the diet and more so in brewer’s yeast and molasses. You can also get chromium from liver, beef and eggs. Some people are allergic to brewer’s yeast and hence care is needed if you are including this in your diet, to help you get the chromium balance in your body. An alternative is chromium supplements. This would require you to consult a medical practitioner, to see that you are taking the right supplement that suits your body. This will also ensure that you do not manifest any allergies while taking the chromium supplement.
A body needs complete nutrition to have healthy skin, which can then suppress acne. So your diet needs to include the right amount of vitamins and minerals. These in turn can act as antioxidants and ensure the removal of radicals and toxins from the body. The antibacterial effects of these minerals and chemicals can keep at bay the bacterium that helps in causing acne. They could also help in keeping the skin pores free from toxins that can clog them. This clogging can damage skin tissue and help the spread of acne.
Chromium helps to reduce the skin infection rates and thus help you with the problem of acne. Liquid supplements for acne are in the form of chromium picolinate and chromium polynicotinate. Some bodies do not easily absorb chromium from the dietary products and this may lead to chromium deficiency. A diet that is high in sugar intake can also cause a deficiency of chromium. To fight acne the chromium dosage must be at least 150 mcg per day. Besides chromium, zinc is also an element that helps with the healing of tissues and prevention of scar tissue. So a dosage of 30 mg per day of zinc can also help you fight acne.
A liquid multivitamin with chromium can act as a correct supplement to your diet. It should be taken at least twice a day. Refrain from overdosing yourself, as this will in no way reduce your acne. The body has a limited capacity to absorb chromium and if you try to exceed this, it could also lead to other dangerous side effects.
