Best Fruits for Weight Loss

There are thousands of diets floating around out there. Some of these diets are filled with sound advice and healthy weight loss options. Others are not so healthy and can even be dangerous. But it is so easy to get drawn in to all of the hype of the newest fad diet that promises that we will lose all of our unwanted pounds virtually over night. This begs the question, are there really magic foods that help us shed our unwanted pounds faster? Well, there are healthier choices that you can make that are filled with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that our bodies need.

Many nutritionists recommend adding fruits to your meals for weight loss success. Fruits are full of vitamins and minerals that your body needs for optimum health. They also contain much needed fiber and antioxidants that help your body detoxify itself. Not to mention that they are very low in calories and taste delicious!

Doctors and nutritionists generally recommend 4-5 servings of fruits per day for ultimate health benefits. To keep blood sugars level, fruits should be eaten for mid-morning and afternoon snacks instead of sugary substitutes. The exception to this is dried fruits, which have sugars added during processing.

While all fruits are healthy, there are some fruits that are better for dieting than others. Here is a short list of some of the most diet-friendly fruits.

Bananas- Bananas are a great choice for dieters. They are loaded with much needed potassium and help with nutrient absorption. Bananas only contain about 100 calories each and are mostly water.

Berries- Berries are very low in calories and fiber, and are chock full of disease fighting antioxidants, which make them perfect little jewels for a dieter. Berries are great alone for snacking or can be added to high-fiber cereals, shakes and even savory recipes.

Grapefruits- These large citrus fruits seem to have a notorious reputation to being metabolism boosters. Grapefruits contain compounds that lower insulin levels, therefore zapping a person’s hunger levels for hours.

Apples- Apples are rich in vitamins and minerals and very high in fiber which aide in digestion and help keep you full. They also have a high water content, which helps flush toxins from cells within the body.

Melons- Melons are all most all water and full of fiber. They are very sweet fruits and make a great substitute for sugary foods if you are craving sweets. Melons will not only fill you up, but flush your system as well taking fat and toxins with it.

Of course, this is only a partial list. There are too many fruits that have unbelievable nutritional qualities to possible list in one short article, but the above fruits are widely available to the masses. The sugar content (even though it is natural sugar) can be quite high on some of these fruits, especially melons, so moderation is something to keep in mind when eating them. However, fruits really are a perfect diet food. They are healthy, portable, easy to eat, and taste good too!
