Blackwing Volumes 56 Joe DiMaggio

So I’ve never made a secret of the fact that I’m not a huge pencil guy, so pencil reviews don’t find their way to the site that often.  Two things I am a big fan of though are baseball and limited editions stuff.  For the latter reasons, these Blackwing Volumes 56 Joe DiMaggio pencils (via Pencils.com) were a no-brainer for me.

The reason these are Volume 56 is to commemorate the legendary 56 game record holding hitting streak of Yankee legend, actually baseball legend, Joe Dimaggio.  The best part of his 56 game hitting streak was that it wasn’t even his longest one.  When he was in the minor leagues he actually had a 61 game hitting streak.  Anyway…pencils, that is why we are here.  As you can see above the Blackwing Volumes 56 Joe DiMaggio is adorned with a mostly white body and blue pinstripse to emulate the classic look of the Yankee uniform that Dimaggio wore.

The body of the Blackwing Volumes 56 Joe DiMaggio has the usual Palomino branding with the horse logo and Blackwing text, but also has the Volume number of 56 stamped in gold on the white flat panel of the body between the two blue pinstripes.

In addition to the gold stamped lettering on the barrel, the ferrule is also gold, which represents the gold of the Commissioner’s Trophy won by the Yankees the same year of his 56 game hitting streak in 1941.  You will also notice the replaceable eraser in this case is a nice royal blue to match the Yankee pinstripes on the barrel of the pencil.

I almost forgot, this is a pencil review, so um yeah I totally bought these for the fact that they are pencils and they write nice. 🙂  Actually the only real last thing I’ll leave you with is that the card used as the background for these pictures is kind of cool too.  Its part of my Yankee managers card collection, which means I actually bought it because Joe McCarthy is on it, but its a 1936 Goudey and is kind of big for a baseball card, measuring 3.5″x5.5″.  Anyway, buy some of these awesome pencils here if you want. I’m not going to pretend this was anything other than an excuse for me to spend some money on some really nice pencils that also happen to be Yankee and baseball themed.
