Diving watch is designed for underwater diving. It features, as a minimum, a water resistance greater than 10 ATM, the equivalent of 100 meters. The standards for diving watches are regulated in the ISO 6425 standard such as magnetic resistance, shock resistance and chemical resistance. Here is something about the history of this kind of wristwatch. Luminescent paint pigment applied on a diver’s watch to make it readable in low light conditions. The Omega Marine, the world’s first diving watch was introduced by Omega SA in 1932. During and after World War II, these early dive watches were made in small numbers in response to military and professional needs, and were not intended for large-scale commercial distribution. In 1953, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms waterproof watches came on the market. Fifty Fathoms in the film (Le monde du silence, 1956) In 1959, the United States Navy Experimental Diving Unit evaluated five diving wristwatches that included the Bulova US Navy Submersible Wrist Watch, Enicar Sherpa Diver 600, Enicar Seapearl 600, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, and the Rolex Oyster Perpetual. As the first watch water-resistant to 330 feet, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual unveiled in 1953. Its combination of unparalleled elegance and spy-friendly versatility appealed to Sean Connery’s James Bond. Dr. No (1962) During the 1960s, the needs of professional marine divers working at great depths led to the development of the first ultra water resistant watches like the Rolex Sea-Dweller 2000 and the Omega Seamaster Professional became available and warmly welcomed. Rolex Sea-Dweller DEEPSEA, introduced in 2008 Among all the standards, water resistance is the most important. Diving wristwatches are classified by their degree of water resistance. By knowing it, customers can make a wiser choice on buying diving watches. There are scuba diving and saturation diving. If your diving watch features a 10 ATM water resistance, it is NOT suitable for saturation diving. Saturation diving requires at least a diving wristwatch features 30 ATM water resistance.
