2012 has been a fantastic year to be British. From the amazing (albeit a bit soggy!) Jubilee celebrations, to the brilliant London Olympic Games, the whole country has been going crazy for all things GB. A great way to carry on the celebrations is by baking your own patriotic cupcakes – complete with red, white and blue colouring.
There’s plenty of recipes out there to get you started if you’re a baking novice, but the most important thing to remember is to get your hands dirty and experiment! No one would expect your first stabs to turn out like Mary Berry had just been round and given you a tutorial, so just remember to invest in some good quality ingredients and let the oven do the work!
To create the foundations of your brilliantly British cupcakes you’ll need the basics such as self raising flour, eggs, castor sugar, baking powder and a filling or topping of your choice such as strawberry jam. Then once you’ve gone forth and baked, you’ll simply need some strawberries and delicious whipped cream to finish off your beautiful Blighty treats!
