We live in a world that is filled with traditions, as well as superstitions. It is important to keep in mind that superstitions vary according to country and even region. There are a few common wedding superstitions that hold true for many locations, however. Here is an overview of some of the popular superstitions which are still believed by many people today.

Wedding Dress

There are a few different superstitions in regards to the wedding dress. The most well known superstition or myth about wedding dresses is that the color white represents virginity. Since it was a common practice to hang the sheets from the wedding night out on the line to ensure that there were blood stains on them, it is safe to say that this wedding superstition or myth is true. Many people believe that women who have already been married should incorporate another color into their wedding dress, or should go for an off-white. Another superstition about wedding dresses is that they represent wealth. The reason is because in the olden days, bleach was known to be very expensive. The more brilliant the shade of white the wedding dress was, the richer her family was known to be. Also remember that the bride should have something old, new, borrowed, and blue for the best of luck!

Flower Girls

It is generally very cute for a bride to have one or few flower girls, but many are not aware of the flower girl’s actual purpose. When the flowers get sprinkled on the way to the altar, it is a superstition that they will bring luck for the bride and groom. Most cultures believe that the flower petals will help increase your chances of having multiple pregnancies in the future. Others believe that the petals simply represent luck.

Wedding Cake

There is also a superstition about wedding cake as well. It is believed that you preserve a piece of wedding cake on the day of the wedding. On the day one of your one year wedding anniversary, you and your new spouse should eat the cake together. This is thought to bring your marriage good luck.

Wedding Day Weather

There are two very popular contradictory beliefs about the weather of your wedding day. Most people hope for sunshine on their wedding day. A lot of people believe that rain is thought to be bad luck and that if it does rain on your special day, it can cause you to endure a lot of tears and suffering throughout your marriage. On the other hand, there are many people who believe that rain on your wedding day can bring you good luck.

Although there are many out there, these are just a few of the most common wedding superstitions. The wedding dress, flower girls, wedding cake, and weather are just a few of the different elements associated with weddings that there are superstitions about. If you are a very superstitious person, then there is a good chance that you will want to put a lot of planning into your day to ensure that it goes the best.
