It’s raining out and there isn’t anything you can get done outside. The garden is definitely off-limits and there won’t be any ballgames any time soon. Your indoor chores are all finished, and there is nothing to watch on TV that’s worth your time. Now is the time to find something to do on a rainy day that will keep you occupied, and hopefully will increase your knowledge.
One of the things to do on a rainy day is to learn a new craft, or hone-up on one. Perhaps you remember your grandmother crocheting or knitting on rainy days. You probably have everything you need to have a go at it if someone in your family already does the craft. If not, you can make a quick trip to the store, even in the rain, to pick up the supplies you need. Don’t bother to purchase a book to teach you how to do it; there are plenty of sites online that even have video to show you exactly how it’s done.
Another enjoyable thing to do on a rainy day is to cook and bake. This one can even get your whole family involved. Bake cookies or cakes and let the kids help you decorate them with frostings and sprinkles. Your children will find this a fun thing to do on a rainy day. Teach your children or your husband how to make that family favorite dish for supper.
When you are searching for things to do on a rainy day, don’t forget that this is an opportune time to clean out closets or boxes of belongings that you haven’t touched in years. Separate what you will keep from what you want to get rid of. Then you need to decide if what you are not wanting anymore should be thrown away, given to goodwill, or even put out at a garage sale. When helping your children with their belongings, make sure that you have them try on their old clothes and make sure they fit. There is no point in keeping clothes that don’t fit. However, if their jeans fit around the waist, you can cut the legs off and hem the edges for summer play wear.
Another good thing to do on a rainy day that will give you a feeling of accomplishment is to get all the mending and little repairs done that have been piling up. You know the ones – the broken china vase that needs a touch of glue or the buttons off your favorite blouse you have been meaning to replace. This takes just a few minutes, and you will have them put back where they belong and one chore out of the way. You might even take the time to use all those cut off jeans legs to start a simple patchwork denim quilt. Your kids would even love to help you piece it together, and it’s a fun thing to do on a rainy day.
