Responsibility of Parents Following a Divorce The emotional turmoil that a child goes through seeing his parents getting separated from each other is more than enough to ruin his childhood. Under such circumstances the government steps in and makes sure that both the parents fulfill their duty. It does so by ensuring that the child is brought up properly and all his needs are well taken care of. Usually it happens that at the time of divorce, the court demands the parents to discuss which one of the parents will take the responsibility of the child. The one with whom the child lives becomes the resident parent and the other becomes the non-resident parent. As bringing up of the child is the responsibility of both the parents, the court demands the non-resident parent to take the responsibility of the child by paying some amount for maintenance. This amount is also known as alimony that is paid on regular basis to match the basic requirements of the child.
CSA: The UK Government’s Official Agency
However, in order to make sure that the child is not deprived of his basic needs that government has set up the CSA. Child Support Agency (CSA) as the name suggests is the agency that ensures the welfare of the child, especially in cases where
the parents have had a divorce. The agency performs the duty of seeing through that both the parents play fulfill their duty as far as their child is concerned. It makes sure that the non-resident pays his alimony on time and it is used for the right purpose. Just in case the non-resident is not doing so the resident parent can take help from the CSA, which further looks into the matter and performs its duty.
Functions Performed by CSA
The primary aim of the child is to ensure that the child is well taken care and gets all that he needs for a fulfilling childhood. If the parents are not able to perform their duty, the CSA intervenes and takes the necessary steps needed for the betterment of the child. The first thing that they do is calculate the amount that the non-resident parent needs to pay for maintenance. It calculates the fair and accurate amount that the non-resident parent should give to the resident parent. They also make both the parents aware of their rights so that they can perform their duties duly. In a nutshell, we can say that CSA is a firm that was formed to offer a comfortable platform to parents where they could easily reach out and get advice from professionals. The agency has been performing its duty sincerely since it was formed and will continue to do the same in the years to come.
