The first thing to practice is drinking 7-8 glasses of water a day as dehydration would cause the skin to look dull and dry. It also increases the chance of developing acne. Keeping hydration is a beneficial to the body in many ways!

As for food, a good balance of carbohydrates and protein is needed as well as several vitamins to keep the skin looking healthy. Protein is an important nutrient that the skin needs as it is responsible for healing damaged body tissues. Aside from meat and fish, protein-rich foods include dairy products such as milk and cheese, sprouted beans and soya. Yogurt would be a good compliment to protein intake as it contains good bacteria that helps maintain clean intestines. Carbohydrates are also needed to retain a healthy skin. Brown sugar and honey are great sources of carbohydrates that help cleanse the blood and enable the body to release toxins. Note that white sugar, white flour and white bread are carbohydrates that are considered “junk food.”

In the process of refining these food, important nutrients such as fiber is filtered out making it useless for the body. Carbohydrate that are not immediately burned by the body is stored as fat. Although a small amount of fat is necessary to keep skin supple, extra fat is more damaging than healthy! Fiber is essential in achieving a radiant glow. Pineapple is one of the best sources of fiber. Fruit peels as well as outer layers of grains are areas where the fiber is most dense. Mixing these in a fruit shake would be the easiest way to ensure fiber intake.

Aside from nutrients, several vitamins contribute to a healthy skin. Vitamin A strengthens the skin tissues and helps prevent pimples. It is also an antioxidant that fights toxins and radicals that cause premature ageing. Vitamin B Complex is needed for a beautiful skin tone. It also prevents stress which is harmful to the skin as well as damaging to a person’s health. Other important functions of Vitamin B Complex is improving metabolism and boosting the body’s immune system by helping in the production of antibodies. The next vitamin that is necessary in one’s diet is vitamin C. This antioxidant is essential in the process of healing wounds and soothing collagen. This vitamin can even be directly applied to the skin’s outer layer to heal minor burns and reduce wrinkles. Vitamin E is one of the most important vitamins that the skin needs. Aside from it being an anti-oxidant, vitamin E can be applied topically as a moisturizer, which is a daily requirement to maintain the skin’s youthful glow.

A proper diet is essential for a generally healthy body and a healthy body manifests a beautiful and radiant skin. A good balance of healthy food would consist of the necessary vitamins and minerals that the skin requires.
