If you want to really know Gucci, apart from all those fancy items in the display windows, you may also need to know something else that the fashion house has done in other fields. We are not sure for what utter purposes the big brands do something good, but it should be appreciated if it is good to society and people. Gucci Watches has announced a special edition U-Play watch designed by Creative Director Frida Giannini and a contribution of $70,000 to benefit UNICEF Schools for Africa initiative. The Gucci U-Play watch is characterised by an interchangeable bezel and bracelet and for the limited edition, launching in time for the holidays, the design features silver Guccissima leather on the strap and bezel. “I visited Malawi with UNICEF at the end of last year and saw the very difficult situation children face in sub-Saharan Africa, where so many children don’t get the chance to go to school.” Said Frida Giannini, Creative Director of Gucci, “I saw that UNICEF’s Schools for Africa program is successfully providing this opportunity that so many of us take for granted. Every child has the right to an education, and an education is forever.” Gucci has started its relationship with UNICEF since 2005, and over the course the company has committed more than US$ 9 million and has consistently supported UNICEF’s life-saving treatment, care and prevention programs for orphans and vulnerable children in sub-Saharan Africa, where nearly 1 million children have been orphaned by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. And now the partnership of the two has evolved to focus on education through UNICEF’s ‘Schools for Africa’ initiative, which aims to increase access to quality basic education for millions of children in Africa, with a special emphasis on helping the most disadvantaged – girls, orphans and children living in extreme poverty. The Gucci U-Play Special Edition to benefit UNICEF has been available worldwide since November 2010. The author is a copywriter concentrating on Cartier replica handbags.
