Dandruff is a condition caused by excess shedding of skin on the scalp. Most people have to deal with this at least once in their lifetime. Although something that rarely requires medical attention, dandruff can be a source of great embarrassment. This is especially true for those who have dark hair as the white skin flakes stand out for all to see.

Not to worry though as there are various treatments and preventions for dandruff that can be purchased or better still made at home. Listed below are some homemade remedies for dandruff that are easy to make and use:

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar is very useful in the treatment of dandruff that is caused by a greasy scalp as it contains powerful natural acids that are able to break up the oil and fats. This is a very simple treatment. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo and then simply rinse with a solution of half a cup of apple cider vinegar to a quart of water. This solution will also bring a healthy shine to the hair.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is another quick and easy way to treat dandruff. Simply take a glob of Aloe Vera and place it on your head. Massage the Aloe Vera into the scalp and leave for approximately fifteen minutes. When the time is up just shampoo the hair and rinse.

Eggs are another simple homemade remedy for dandruff. Just take 2 eggs, add 2 tablespoons of water and mix. Place the egg mixture over your hair and thoroughly massage into your scalp. Leave the mixture in place for a 10-15 minutes and then rinse out with lukewarm water.

Massage to help prevent and treat dandruff

This massage should be administered twice a week for best results. Massage your scalp with either warm castor oil or coconut oil. Spend about half an hour massaging your head using your fingertips in a circular motion. Leave overnight and shampoo the next morning.

This homemade remedy for dandruff takes slightly longer in the preparation but is worth it as it treats the problem very quickly.

  • 1 liter of water
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 1 handful of Rosemary leaves

Bring the water to a boil. Add the Rosemary leaves and leave to soak overnight. Strain and add the vinegar to the Rosemary leaves. Once you have the anti-dandruff mixture just wash your hair and then rinse with the Rosemary preparation.

Olive Oil and Almond Oil

This homemade remedy for dandruff could not be simpler. Take some Olive oil and some Almond oil mixed together and apply to the scalp. Leave for 5-10 minutes and then rinse.

Fenugreek Seeds (methi)

Take some Fenugreek seeds and soak them overnight. Once soaked, grind them to a paste and apply directly to the scalp. This paste is best left on for about half an hour before washing hair as usual with a mild shampoo.
