Starbucks coffee is more popular than Elmo. Thousands of people across the nation consume Starbucks products on a daily basis. Drinking ‘designer’ coffee on a daily basis, will burn a hole in your pockets. As far fetched as it may sound, you can easily make your own ‘Starbucks Frappuccino’ from the comfort of your own kitchen.
Frappuccino Ingredients:
- 1/2 – 2 cups of ice
- Coffee maker or Coffee pot
- Blender
- 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup of whole milk or half & half
- 1/2 cup of fresh espresso or dark roasted coffee
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla (optional)
- 2 tablespoons of flavored syrup (chocolate, strawberry or caramel)
1. Prepare a fresh pot of coffee. Preparation of your coffee, depends on your equipment. If you want a flavored frappuccino, you can either buy a flavored espresso or add a 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla to your brewed coffee.
2. Chill coffee in a freezer until your coffee is cool. You don’t need to freeze the coffee. Chilling your coffee can take up to 45 minutes.
3. Remove coffee from freezer and place in blender.
4. Place granulated sugar and whole milk in the blender. If you’re watching your waistline, feel free to use low fat half & half. Skim milk and low fat milk will not work with this recipe.
5. Blend ingredients on high for 15-27 seconds. Do not pulse mixture. If you pulse your mixture, you’ll end up with sugar particles in your frappuccino.
6. Add 1 cup of ice to mixture and pulse mixture until your frappuccino has a slush-like texture.
7. Drizzle flavored syrup on the walls of your glass in a circular motion.
8. Pour frappuccino in your glass.
Optional Toppings:
You can’t make a mock ‘Starbucks Frappuccino’, without adding their signature toppings. If you want to cut calories, omit this part of the recipe. You can always add more ice instead of Starbucks’ signature toppings.
Ingredients:
- 1 can of whipped cream or heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons of flavored syrup (chocolate, strawberry or caramel)
- 1 half of a Hershey’s chocolate chocolate bar
1. If you feel like doing extra work, then you can make your whipped cream from scratch. Simply blend your whipping cream until you have stiff peaks. Add a tablespoon of granulated sugar to your whipping cream right before you reach ’stiff peak’ mode.
1a. Spoon your homemade whipped cream over your frappuccino.
1c. A can of whipped cream is the easier route. If you choose to use a canof whipped cream, simply spray the cream over your frappuccino in a circular motion.
2. Drizzle two tablespoons of flavored syrup over your whipped cream. Feel free to mix and match your syrup flavors.
3. Take your vegetable peeler and shave long strips of chocolate over your frappucino. If you want smaller shavings, you can use a cheese grater instead.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. This recipe isn’t the exact same recipe as a Starbucks Frappuccino, but its definitely close. All of theses ingredients are affordable and accessible. Why wait in line for one frappuccino, when you can stay at home and make dozens? Try this affordable recipe and you won’t be disappointed!
