How to Get Ink Off Your Fingers – Amodex or Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Sponges
I’ve heard a lot of people discuss how to get ink off your fingers after changing the ink in your fountain pens, and recently I discovered a great solution that I wanted to share. Previously I had tried Amodex, admittedly because it was sold by many fountain pen shops and it had a picture of a nib on the box. Recently I couldn’t find my bottle of Amodex, but I remembered I had a box of Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponges under the kitchen sink. With no other alternatives I grabbed the box to see if they would work, so lets take a look at a little experiment that I did to compare the Amodex and the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponges.
How to Get Ink Off Your Fingers – The best way:
If you watch the video you can see that the Amodex does an ok job of removing the ink, but it also takes a bit of effort and can be slightly abrasive to the skin since you have to scrub with a brush to get only most of the ink off. On the other hand, the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser removes all of the ink and doesn’t require the abrasive rubbing of a brush on your skin. I tried this experiment with some Noodler’s Bulletproof Black, and Private Reserve Black Velvet inks as well and got the same results so although statistically this isn’t conclusive, I like the results I see so far. I also will mention that the ink in question when I first discovered this alternative of how to get ink off your fingers was Noodler’s Black Swan in Australian Roses.
Not only is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser faster and less abrasive, but I believe it would also end up being less expensive. Its hard to to an apples to apples comparison here because one is a small bottle of liquid while the other is a box of sponges that have a decent amount of surface area for you to go through before they are used up. It does seem however that the 1 oz. bottle of Amodex for $6.35 would be a bit more expensive in the long run than a $3.47 box of four Mr. Clean Magic Eraser sponges.
