While harmless, age spots aren’t always aesthetically pleasing. Look down any skin care isle in your local drugstore or pharmacy and you will typically find a dozen or so age spot minimizing products. Many of these products fade the appearance of the age spots by bleaching the affected portion(s) of skin. This method may not be suitable for all skin types, and there are some individuals that prefer treating their skin naturally. In this article I will explain how to get rid of age spots naturally.
Before I go into how to get rid of your age spots, it is important to know what causes them. Age spots are caused by the collection of pigment within the skin. The most common cause of age spots stems from the skin’s exposure to the UV rays of sunlight. With time (or, more appropriately, age) this pigmentation collects under the skin causing discoloration. Age spots are generally found on areas on the body frequently exposed to the UV rays. These areas are typically centralized on the upper body, and most often on the hands, arms, and face. It is for cosmetic reasons many people find themselves looking to get rid of age spots.
Getting rid of age spots naturally can be done in several ways. As with any other treatment, everyone responds differently so I will go through each option. This will allow you to find which method will help you get rid of your age spots naturally.
