J. Herbin Fountain Pen Ink Cartridges – Gris Nuage (Cloud Gray) Canister

Another item sent over to us by our friends at Jetpens was this 6 pack of J. Herbin Fountain Pen Ink Cartridges in the lovely color of  Gris Nuage (Cloud Gray).  I selected this color because it really struck me as being appropriate for the seasonal change to fall and some gloomy skies above.

I forgot to mention in the writing sample above that the pen used was my Levenger True Writer Illuminator since I have not used it in a very long time.  I also thought it would be a good choice for this ink since it is a wider nib, and this ink is a bit on the faint side, so more ink on the paper makes for better photography and scans.  Unfortunately in this case I had to photograph the writing sample instead of scanning it because the scanner had a hard time picking up the ink clearly.  The J. Herbin Ink in this review comes in a small tin canister with 6 cartridges in it, and is Non-toxic, pH neutral, light fast, water based, and fast drying…we will take a closer look at that last claim in a minute.

So as for the dry time being “fast” on this ink, I’d have to say that at least on the Black n’ Red notebook that I used it in, that wasn’t really the case.  As you can see above, the ink took about 8 seconds to dry.  On some other notebook paper you might get different results, but it is important to keep in mind that when it comes to the dry time for your inks, the paper you are writing on can be just as important as the ink you are using.

Dry time aside, I think this ink is pretty awesome.  It has some very nice shading to it with lighter and darker gray, but it always remains gray and never makes you question if the ink is actually black in any way shape or form and that is a hard line not to cross with a gray ink.  It is definitely worth clicking on the larger images here because although the ink is fairly faint it has some nice characteristics to it that can only be appreciated up close.  There was definitely no feathering or show through with this ink either, so if you are like me and you want something to go with the fall / autumn mood in the air, this is a unique option to load up in  your fountain pen.  Head on over to Jetpens to pick up your own 6 pack of J.
