For those that suffer from seasonal allergies it seems that nothing can “kick in” quite as fast as needed. The headaches, runny noses, and itchy watery eyes can be enough to make one stay indoors for the season. Yet what many individuals that suffer from seasonal allergies don’t realize is that they can be prevented. Seasonal allergies should not slow you down. These natural ways to prevent seasonal allergies can help keep your allergies at bay.

Locally sourced honey is an easy and natural way to prevent seasonal allergies. By locally sourced, I mean the honey is sourced not where it is acquired. The reason locally sourced honey works in preventing seasonal allergies is quite simple. The pollen that would trigger your seasonal allergies are collected and made into honey by bees. By ingesting the honey, it works homeopathically to prevent seasonal allergies. Locally sourced honey can generally be found at your neighborhood or community farmer’s market.

Seasonal allergies are an affliction of the immune system. That being said, consuming supplements geared towards immunity would help in the prevention of seasonal allergies. Supplements that would aide in boosting the immune system include:

  • Garlic
  • Fish Oil
  • Vitamin C
  • Wasabi
  • Echinacea ( not advised for those with known daisy allergies)
  • Spirulina and Chlorophyll
  • Tea of any variety, although green varieties tend to have a higher ORAC value

These supplements, in addition to a diet high in antioxidants are the best course of action.

Antioxidants help to prevent seasonal allergies by eliminating the body of excess toxins. Antioxidants can also help to strengthen the immune system, making them a double threat against allergies. When your body is strong you are more prepared to combat these allergens. Sometimes individuals that do not care for themselves properly experience more than just an allergic reaction. Allergens can weaken the body making us more susceptible to viral and bacterial infections. The most important factor in preventing seasonal allergies is staying healthy.

While taking care of one’s body through diet is a great foundation, it is not the only course of action available. Another natural way to prevent seasonal allergies is to keep the nasal passages clean. This can be achieved by using saltwater or saline solution in an epi-pot. I would suggest that this takes place upon rising in the morning and after coming in from outdoor activity. (Or upon arriving home after work) This can be performed more frequently if need be or if congestion occurs. By keeping your nasal passages free of pollen, you help to prevent the pollen from triggering seasonal allergies.

Acupuncture is also said to be a natural way to prevent seasonal allergies. To utilize acupuncture as a means of preventing seasonal allergies, the immune system is manipulated. The spleen, liver, and the large intestines should be focused on through their various pressure points.

These natural ways to prevent seasonal allergies will allow you to make it through the allergy season without suffering symptoms. By implementing these methods into your daily routine, allergy symptoms should be no more. As always consult your physician prior to beginning any health routine.
