The NockCo DotDash pocket notebook tucked inside the Nock Co Hightower Pen Case
Friend, fellow blogger, and purveyor of fine stationery items, Brad kindly sent over some of his new Nock Co. DotDash Pocket Notebooks (via Nock Co) recently for us to take a look at and review. The super bright an sunny yellow covers with the orange and copper-ish colored Nock Co. logo are a great contrast to the super cold weather we have here in the north east today.
NockCo DotDash Pocket Notebook in the Hightower Pen Case
On the back side of the top opening Nock Co. DotDash Pocket Notebook there is a nice artistically styled American flag in the same orange and copper-ish tone as the front cover logo to indicate that this product is made here in the USA. You will also notice that so far, all fo the pictures you have seen of the DotDash Pocket Notebook show it tucked inside the pocket of the Nock Co. Hightower Pen case which is designed specifically for holding pens, notebooks and/or 3″ x 5″ index cards. The DotDash Pocket Notebook fits in the pocket perfectly making for a nice compact pen and notebook storage solution. Each notebook is bound at the top with two silver staples .

Like many other small journal and notebooks, the Nock Co. DotDash Pocket Notebook has space on the inside cover to provide some identifying information to help categorize the notebook or to increase the chances of it being returned to you should you manage to lose this bright yellow beacon that could probably melt the snow. I’ve always wondered about the volume of lost, reported, and returned notebooks out there when this kind of information is provided. Luckily Brad was thoughtful enough to add some contact info at Nock Co. should your notebook get lost and subsequently found, maybe one day he can answer the question about the frequency of these happenings. I like to think that people dont end up misplacing their notebooks often, and that they are promptly contacted and have them returned when the unfortunate event does take place. Maybe the awesome bright yellow of these have me in an uncharacteristically chipper mood, and thinking like an optimist.
DotDash Pocket Notebook Back Cover
The back cover of the Nock Co. DotDash Pocket Notebook has some of the key stats regarding these notebooks. They document the fact that you have a 48 page notebook with 3.5″ x 5.5″ dimensions and that the first run of these American made notebooks took place in December of 2014. What isn’t mentioned here is that the distinctive dotgrid pattern of ruling on the pages is composed of 4.25 square mm grids printed in Cool Gray or Pantone 179-3 for you design nerds out there.

As the name of the Nock Co. DotDash Pocket Notebook implies, these fit pretty nicely right into the back pocket of your jeans, and the rounded corners do a nice job of helping to prevent snagging and mangled corners as opposed to squared corners. Writing in these notebooks with fountain pens was a challange that they easily handled on the front side of each page. There appeared to be no feathering or otherwise bad behavior of the multiple inks I tested on these. Each of the inks I tried on this paper dried near instantly, and the navigation of the pen nib across the surface felt smooth with just a hint of toothiness.

Checking out some other ink, pen, and pencil samples in the Nock Co. DotDash Pocket Notebook was fun and they all handled great on the surface of he paper. I was also impressed with the pencil eraser test that I carried out here. Going from left to right above, the pencil scribbles go from light to dark, but each was easily removed without the paper being torn or eroded away.
DotDash Pocket Notebook Writing Samples – Back Side
This is the backside of the first writing sample you see above. Its upsidedown because…well because I’m lazy and because thats how top stapled notebooks work, so deal with it. As you can see, fountain pen ink and several of the other inks do show through on the paper in the Nock Co. DotDash Pocket Notebook, however they did not bleed onto the next page. Depending on your tolerance for show through this may or may not be acceptable. I’m coming to be less picky about this the more notebooks I review and find so few that actually don’t suffer from a similar fate. As far as having some showthrough goes though, for a pocket notebook thats most likely an every day beater notebook, this probably isn’t a huge deal.

Overall I’m a big fan of the Nock Co. DotDash Pocket Notebook for multiple reasons. The nice bright covers, the unique flip up design, the great writing experience and the fact that you can use them with some of your other Nock Co. accessories makes them an awesome addition to any stationery stash. Its also just good to know that if you are buying any of these, you are supporting a great and hard working guy that has done a heck of a lot for the pen/stationery/office supply world.
