Paper Mate InkJoy Quatro Package

The Paper Mate InkJoy Quatro is a refreshed looking version of the classic Old School Bic Color Pen.  The standard white body with 4 color options of green, blue, black and red make this type of pen a staple for many looking for a basic multi color pen.  The one reviewed here today is a 1.omm Medium tipped version.

Paper Mate InkJoy Quatro Body

The reason I said that the Paper Mate Ink Joy Quatro is a good “basic” pen is because nothing about it really jumps out and makes you really want to use this pen.  While the body looks fairly streamlined and clean, it feels a bit uninspired.  The plastic bodyand rubber grip are both very rigid and tell you right off the bat that this is a pen that is designed for penny pinchers, not that there is anything wrong with that.  Saving money and having inexpensive pens are both fine, but for the readership here its probably not the type of pen you are looking for.

Besides the cheaper look and feel of the Paper Mate InkJoy Quatro, I also had a minor issue with the chambers that house the plunger for each color.  The top edges of the white plastic that surround the chamber could definitely stand to be a little smoother.  I’m not saying they are sharp by any means, but they definitely start to wear on you if you find yourself switching colors frequently.

Paper Mate InkJoy Quatro Writing Sample

Overall the Paper Mate InkJoy Quatro wrote fairly nicely leaving some pretty bold colors with a smooth writing experience.  To be honest, I wouldn’t expect anything less from a pen with a tip that large.  It was a nice surprise to see that it seemed a hair more consistent when writing than the last time I reviewed anything from the InkJoy series.  Its hard to say if they somehow improved the quality of the InkJoy line, or if you should just expect to get varying degrees of consistency on a lower end pen like this.  If you need a basic multi color pen , the Paper Mate InkJoy Quatro will help you get by with pretty good performance and at a very inexpensive price.
