Places to Get Married in Alabama

If you’re looking for a great wedding place in Alabama, there’s probably no spot more romantic than the gulf coast. Set on the Gulf of Mexico with sugar white sands, the coast offers destination beach wedding ideas that range from simple and inexpensive to a full-blown gala with all the works. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are both popular for Alabama beach weddings, as well as the smaller towns that dot Alabama’s gulf coast. There are plenty of wedding consultant companies in the area that are experienced in providing all types of beach ceremonies and receptions. Many of the major hotels also offer wedding services. For a super romantic honeymoon, the wedding couple might want to choose the Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach. The hotel is a full-service resort with a Mediterranean look right on the Gulf of Mexico, with romantic suites that features a balcony, king bed, bar and whirlpool tub. After a dinner in the luxurious Voyagers Restaurant, the bride and groom can take a midnight walk on the beach.

South Alabama may have the beach, but north Alabama has the mountains. At the Wedding Chapel on the Mountain, in Huntsville, couples can plan an intimate ceremony for just a few people or a large event for hundreds. Besides the romantic chapel, the couple can choose an outdoor setting beside a waterfall. The Wedding Chapel on the Mountain also offers ceremonies and receptions at two other locations: the Burritt Museum on Round Top Mountain, where brides and grooms often say “I do” in the gazebo at sunset and the Monte Sano State Park Lodge, built in 1939 complete with fire places, high ceilings and hardwood floors.

Bellingrath Gardens, just outside Mobile, Al, has more than 65 acres of gardens that bloom throughout the year. The Gardens have been open to the public since 1932, and in 2004, it was chosen the top public rose garden in the United States. There are two outdoor sites available for romantic Alabama weddings. The South Terrace overlooks a river and is perfect for weddings with less than 200 guests. For larger outdoor ceremonies, brides choose the Great Lawn, which can hold up to 500 guests. For a small indoor wedding of less than 25 guests, a beautiful chapel is located in the gardens. Brides dress in the 1935, 10,500 sq. ft.  Bellingrath home, located within the gardens. The Great Lawn in available for large receptions, and it can accommodate tents, dance floors and dining tables.

Scarlet O’Hara was married in her antebellum mansion, Tara, and many contemporary Southern brides want to do the same thing. There are several historical mansions from the Civil War era throughout the state that offer a romantic and charming place for an Alabama wedding. At Winston Place, near Birmingham, a bride might choose an intimate wedding on the front veranda or a large scale affair on the huge lawn. Winston Place is also an Alabama bed and breakfast that can serve as accommodations for guests and a romantic honeymoon spot.

The Auburn University Chapel, a historic church just across the street from Auburn University, is the perfect spot for an Alabama wedding of less than 100 guests. It’s often the choice of Auburn students tying the knot. The non-denominational chapel has a Reuter-two manual pipe organ which is available for wedding use. There is no space for a reception at the University Chapel, but the Auburn University Hotel is within walking distance.
