If you’re looking for a travel destination that’s packed full of things to do, you can’t go wrong with New York City. The attractions are many around town, including the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, the New York Stock Exchange, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, shopping on 5th Avenue, and many others. In fact, you could stay for a year and you still wouldn’t have time to see all the wonders in this vibrant city. And although hotel room rates are generally pretty high around this city that never sleeps, you can still find some deals available if you know where to look and are willing to walk a few extra blocks or sacrifice some space or luxury.
Milford Plaza – $159.00
Booking the “Take Me Out to Milford” package at this hotel can get you rates starting at $159 per night, which is not bad considering you will be one block from Times Square and the theaters of Broadway. And if you are searching for even more to do, Radio City Music Hall, 5th Avenue, and Rockefeller Center are just short walks away of between 5 and 6 blocks. Presenting a piece of memorabilia of Shea or the old Yankee stadium at check-in will get you an even better deal, upgrading you to Milford Club accommodations, which includes free internet access and complimentary continental breakfast in the lounge.
Comfort Inn Central Park West – $99.00
Although weekend rates are currently around $199 a night, you can usually get a room at this hotel during the week for $99 per night. It is situated in the Upper West Side, half a block from the world famous Central Park, and eight blocks away from the American Museum of Natural History. And just six blocks from this hotel is Lincoln Center, which encompasses the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet, and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Inside, the hotel is pretty standard as Comfort Inns go, and all rooms include wireless internet access and complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby.
The Pod Hotel NYC – $69.00
If space is not much of an issue and you really want to save money, how about staying in a Pod? Specifically, the Pod Hotel offers smaller rooms for equally small prices. A recent inquiry for a room on a Tuesday night found a price of an insanely low $69.00 for a room with two twin beds arranged as bunk beds, and a shared bathroom. Rooms are also available with double and queen beds and private bathrooms, albeit for twice the price. Also included in the typical room is an iPod docking station, LCD TV, in room safe, a small closet, and wireless internet access. The location of this hotel is pretty good – only four blocks from 5th avenue, and less than six blocks from the theater district. It’s also only two blocks from the subway, so that expands your sightseeing range greatly if you prefer mass transportation.
