Going green is on almost everyone’s mind right now. If you are going to be getting married any time soon, it may be a good idea to plan an eco-friendly wedding reception. While most people do not realize it, a few simple changes can really make a huge impact on the environment. Here are some tips on how to create a beautiful wedding reception that will also be much more conscious of our surroundings and the world that we live in.

Location of the Reception

When planning an eco-friendly wedding reception, try to choose a location that is close for most of your guests. Reducing the amount of driving that people need to do will help save the environment. A venue for an eco-friendly wedding reception should also be located very close to the place where the wedding ceremony will be held. If you are planning to have the wedding reception at an outdoor location, make sure that both garbage and recycling bins are offered.

Wedding Invitations

After the wedding is over, most invitations will get thrown away. Choose 100% recycled invitations for your eco-friendly wedding reception. Green wedding invitations are very popular, so you should be able to find ones which are suitable for your wedding reception. Engagement announcements, save the date cards, thank you notes and place cards can all be purchased in eco-friendly varieties.

Flower Arrangements

If you are planning on having an eco-friendly wedding reception, it is important to consider what type of flowers you will purchase.. The most practical option is to choose organically grown flowers from a local florist. Avoid selecting flower arrangements from a nationwide florist unless they can guarantee that the flowers will be organically grown. A Google search should help you find local florists or farmers that will be able to provide flowers for an eco-friendly wedding reception.

Wedding Cake

Traditional tiered wedding cakes are held together with metal, plastic tubes and other materials which will get thrown into the garbage and may not be recycled. There are many things that you can do to make your wedding cake suitable for an eco-friendly wedding reception. Consider baking a cake, selecting a sheet cake or choosing an arrangement of cupcakes. If you’re planning an eco-friendly wedding reception, it’s also a good idea to make sure the cake is entirely edible. Flowers and other cake toppers that will get thrown away should be avoided.

Wedding Favors

When selecting wedding favors for an eco-friendly wedding, try to opt for something that supports a cause, such as endangered species. It is also a good idea to choose a wedding favor that will last for a long time or actually be used, such as wine or chocolate. Be sure to explore all of your green options before deciding on wedding favors for your party.

Although planning an eco-friendly wedding reception may seem somewhat challenging, it really does not need to be. There are many things that you can do to ensure that your wedding reception will be both beautiful and conscious of the environment.
