Many pool owners are beginning to switch from traditional swimming pools to salt water pools to reap their unusual benefits. Salt water pools used to be an exception from the norm but are now becoming very common in many household yards. Various pool companies are also starting to manufacture salt water systems in addition to regular pool supplies.
Pool owners invest in salt water pool systems for various reasons. Salt water pool systems provide a consistent level of chlorine as opposed to traditional swimming pools. Salt water systems use free chlorine that is created by the pools salt. This benefits the pool owner as there is no smell of chlorine or burning sensation in the eyes when swimming underwater. Salt water systems also give the benefit of naturally softer water that allows for more comfortable jumping.
Although there are many benefits to purchasing a salt water system, there are some downfalls. Salt water pools are generally more expensive to maintain and the start up costs are usually higher. Keeping the amount of salt in the pool can also be very difficult to track. It’s important to keep the right levels in the pool as low levels of salt can lead to the reduction of free chlorine.
Although it’s not always necessary, larger salt water pools may need to be shocked on occasion. Chlorine should be added to the pool basket in the form of chlorine pellets or powder. Shocking a salt water pool usually takes a lot of practice as they are more chemically delicate than traditional swimming pools. Rain and other factors can tamper with the chlorine and salt levels in a pool so the content should be monitored closely.
Unlike traditional swimming pools, UV rays have the possibility of interfering with salt water pools. Purchasing a stabilizer such as cyanuric acid can help to keep the amount of salt in the pool at a more constant level. The salt water system pump must be running at all times to keep the pool making a constant production of free chlorine.
Salt water pool systems have many benefits over normal pool arrangements. Salt water pools are always free of algae and they produce their own free chlorine. The downside of salt water systems is that they are somewhat more difficult to maintain. As the outside temperature rises, the salt content in the pool can greatly reduce. Frequent pool level examinations must be done each week to keep the pool at healthy and swim-able levels.

Salt water pools do have their benefits as you will be swimming in a more comfortable and clean pool.
