The Sharpie Pen Retractable with New Body Style
A few weeks ago, there were some new colors (orange, green, and purple) of the Retractable Sharpie Pen released, and with that release I noticed that the new colors also came with an updated body style. This review will take a look at those same new colors, and in the new body style.
The Sharpie Pen Retractable New Bodies from Top to Bottom
The list of things that have changed with this version of the Sharpie Pen Retractable are as follows:
-The plunger has been changed from chrome to black
-There is now a color coordinated ring that goes around the body of the pen
-The clip has been extended just a bit and comes to more of a point
-The clip also has a smaller Sharpie logo that is also more towards the bottom of the clip (click on the first picture of the review to see)
-The rubber grip no longer has any ridges in it
-The lip on the top and bottom of the grip that transitioned to the pen body has been removed
So that is a pretty long list of things to change on a pen, but in my short time with the new body style I have not noticed any real difference with the writing experience other than the rattle of the plunger that I noted in my previous review of the new color retractable Sharpie pens that looked visually like the old ones.

Personally I like the look of the new streamlined model because of the smoother body, and less chrome which helps to accent the color indicator on the plunger and body. My only beef with the new models though is the way that when the plunger is depressed, it tends to rattle a bit. Overall though, the way the plunger stays depressed does make for a quicker and easier way to retract the tip when you are ready because you don’t have to stretch your thumb as far up to reach it.

Writing with each version of the Sharpie Retractable in new colors went smoothly, the colors appear to match, and the writing experience for me was very nice. I have heard people take issue if they press too hard that the tips get messed up, so that would obviously be something to take note of depending on your writing style. As I mentioned before, I picked these up from Amazon here, however the first time I bought any a few weeks ago, I got the version with the silver plungers so I don’t know if I got lucky this time, or of they have run out of what appears to be the old body style.
Also, as promised, I will have a post coming shortly that explores whether or not the insides of the retractable versions were changed. I’ve got the power tools ready to go, and some Sharpie pens ready to be sacrificed to the pen gods, so be sure to check back in for that.
