As we all know, there is big money to be made in the entertainment industry. Any woman with good looks and amazing talent can star in a feature film or land a reality television show. However, in the entertainment industry one cannot make it on talent alone. As the saying goes, it is not what you know it is who you know. All of the five richest women in the world have amazing talent. But, they did not break into the entertainment world on their talent without help. At the start of their careers, they all met that special mentor who took a chance on them and who helped them establish a lucrative career that brought them immense fortune and fame.
Below is a list of the five richest women in the entertainment world.
Forbes magazine has dubbed Oprah Winfrey as the wealthiest woman in the world of entertainment. Her talk show is amazingly popular and successful. Oprah earns an estimated $225 million annually from her talk show, and from Oprah’s Harpo Productions that produce and feature shows starring Dr. Phil McGraw and Rachael Ray.
J.K. Rowling is ranked as the second richest woman in the world of entertainment. The immense popularity of her Harry Potter series has made them the best selling books in history. Her sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is flying off the shelves of bookstores. Rowling also earns huge sums of royalties from Harry Potter merchandise and from the four films based on her Harry Potter series. All films have been wildly successful, topping an estimated 3.5 billion dollars.
Martha Stewart is widely known for her publicly traded company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. Some of her merchandise is found on popular online gift and home decor store, 1800Flowers.com. In 2006 Martha Stewart earned an estimated $1 billion in sales from her merchandise alone. This successful entrepreneur also oversees a television show, a Satellite Radio channel, a magazine and writes books and produces unique and trendy houseware products.
Madonna is an all time music diva and pioneer. Her stunning looks and amazing ability to engage her audience brought her to fame in the 1980s. Over the course of her career, Madonna has amassed a fortune of an estimated net $1 billion from her song albums and live concerts. She still continues to make a fortune from her Material Girl clothing items.
Celine Dion, the incredibly gorgeous and talented French Canadian singer, is ranked as the fifth richest woman in the entertainment industry. In fact, it was her five year gig at the Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas that gave her that financial boost into fifth place. With a powerful and moving voice as hers, it is no wonder why Celine Dion is as wealthy and famous as she is. As many as 140 million albums sold world wide and her “My Heart Will Go On” theme song to the blockbuster Titanic sold over 15 million copies.
It took a lot of time and hard effort for these women to gain such vast wealth and fame. Yet, their talent, outgoing personalities and publicity continues to entice fans to purchase their books, albums, attend their live concerts and watch their hosted television shows.
