Top Ten Muscle Cars

A muscle car is a high-performance, top-value automobile. Features generally include a describes a 2-door rear wheel drive mid-size car with a large, powerful V8 engine, and all at a price that won’t cause bankruptcy. Though muscle cars are subjective, most can agree that the majority of muscle cars were manufactured in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Because of this limited time period, many people value muscle cars and will pay top dollar for one now. Here is a list of what I believe to be the top ten muscle cars of all time:

1. Pontiac GTO

The Pontiac GTO was automobile built by Pontiac in the United States from 1964 to 1974. It is considered by many people the first true muscle car, and its legend lives on. Though it can boast going 0 to 60 miles in a good 6.1 seconds, that alone doesn’t make it worthy enough to make the list. However, since it was the car that began the muscle car phenomena, it deserves a mention.

2. Buick GSX

The Buick GSX began production in 1970 as the high performance option of the already legendary GS 455 model. It makes the list because it is one of the more lighter weights of the muscle cars making it comparable to much more expensive cars like the Hemi Cuda. Because of its great price and speed, the Buick GSX allowed many amateurs to get into the muscle car craze.

3. Plymouth Hemi-Cuda

The best of the Hemi-Cudas had a 425 hbp 426 hemi engine. This car could do an amazing 0-60 in 5.6 seconds and could burn rubber with the best of them easily. It is an iconic symbol of the best muscle cars.

4. 1969 Z28 Camaro

The 1969 Z28 Camaro was not the most powerful muscle car, but it is probably the most stylish. It also makes this list for a numerous other reasons. It had one of the best handling with four-disc brakes, positraction and power steering, making it a favorite of muscle car enthusiasts.

5. 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C

The 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C truly packs a punch, especially considering its size, which made many believe it to be one of the new small European cars. With an impressive 480 bhp, however, it proved it could ride with the best American muscle cars.

6. 1969 ZL1 Camaro

The 1969 ZL1 Camaro is one of the rarest muscle cars. It featured over 500 horsepower with an aluminum V8 engine. It could go 0-60 in almost 5.3 seconds, making it one of the favorites for drag-racing.

7. 1969 427 COPO Chevelle

Definitely one of the rarest if not the rarest, you could only get this car through a special order. Chevelle only made about 320 of these cars. With a 450 bhp, it also had a L72 247-cid V-8 giving it enough speed to race with the best of them.

8. 1968 L88 Corvette

One of the fastest muscle cars, this corvette boasts a speed of 170 mph and is considered one of the best in the corvette world, especially with a 550 bhp.

9. 1969 Ford Mustang ‘Boss 429′

The Boss 429 boasts beastly racing capabilities along with its beastly looks, though it was one of the most expensive Fords at the time. It was the car made when Ford decided to try and get into NASCAR racing.

10. Shelby Mustang

When someone says “All American Muscle Car,” this is automobile that should come to mind. Considered one of the best and one of the rarest, this is the car to have.
