Webkinz toys have become a buzzword for a reason. They have become as popular as other toys, like Cabbage Patch Kids, Elmo, and the Beanie Babies. Webkinz and Lil’Kinz, the little counterparts, are products of a toy company that is based in Toronto, Canada. In fact, it is one of the most sought-after toys not only in regular toy stores, but also in online stores. The public’s fascination with this new toy craze is something that raised a lot of people’s eyebrows.
The Ganz toy store has been selling and distributing toys since 1950, but it was not until 2005 that it introduced these plush toys to the market. Just a few years after its launch, it has become a favorite amongst not only kids, which are their primary target market, but also amongst adults who like to collect them.
So far, there have only been 68 Webkinz toys and 20 Lil’kinz toys sold in the market. To maintain the refreshing image of their toys, the company “retires” some of the animal characters after some time. This means that these toys will no longer be available in the market, as the Ganz toy company has already stopped making them. Some of the more popular toys that have already been retired are Cheeky Cat, Cheeky Monkey, and Cheeky Dog. The “retirement” of some of the toys is deemed by many as a good marketing strategy, as it increases the demand for these. Moreover, it increases the value of the toy. Some people would be willing to buy a “retired” Webkinz toy for as much as $1,000, even if it was originally priced at $10.
Another thing that sets these toys apart from the others is that all these come with a unique code that owners can use to access the official website of the company. This code can also be used by the owner to adapt a virtual version of his pet online. In this virtual setup, the owner can interact with his virtual pet and do certain things, like feeding it, playing with it, and buying accessories for it using kinzcash – money in the Webkinz online world.
All these amazing things about Webkinz just make me want to rush to the nearest toy store to buy one for myself. And I know there are many others who share this feeling. Truly, more and more people are now addicted to these adorable toys.
