In today’s economy, many people are being forced to give up their dogs. If you are searching for a dog then this may be a good time to find free dogs. There are many different ways to find free dogs, just be sure that the dog is healthy and that the dog fits your needs.
One of the best places to find free dogs is online. There are several websites that only list free dogs. Many of these websites offer photos and basic information on the dogs they have listed. Scan though the ads and if you see one that you want you can contact them to discuss it further.
Some people will list their free dogs in the classified section of the local newspaper. Head over to the pets area and see if anyone is offering free dogs. Most newspapers will not have pictures, but they will offer some basic information about the dogs. If you find one that interests you then all you need to do is contact them for further information on their dogs.
Some people offer free dogs because they are ill or have a bad temperament. Most people will be honest with you, but some will not. Some sick dogs do not seem sick, but their health can change rapidly. The best way to safeguard yourself from getting a sick dog is to only take a dog with medical records. Dogs with a bad temperament will be visible. If the dog tries to attack you and won’t stop barking then it may not be the right dog for you.
When you inquire about free dogs be sure to ask questions. You will surely want to know their habits, whether they are housebroken, if they are spayed, wormed and vaccinated. It is also good to ask about when they had their last flea and tick treatment. Ask the owners if you can have the dog’s medical records and if they have a preferred vet. If you live in the same area, you can continue to take that dog to its normal vet. Also, be sure to ask about how it responds to children and other pets if you have them.
Once you pick out a dog, ask the owner if you can stop by and spend a little time with it. If they are firmly against it then their may be a problem with the dog. If they say yes, then take advantage of it. Just because the dog may be good for them doesn’t mean that it will be good for you. Take the time to get to know the dog and let it get to know you. If you feel that the dog is a good match then you can talk to the owner about taking it home.
Free dogs can be a great find, but they can also mean trouble. Take all of the precautions you would take if you were paying for it and you will be fine. If you feel that you can no longer take care of the dog, then be sure to contact the old owner and ask for their advice on putting it up for adoption.
