Why You Need An EcoFriendly Lawnmower

Green living extends to all aspects of life and that includes the lawn. Gasoline powered lawn mowers add to pollution of the environment whether you realize it or not. Every time you mow the lawn you are releasing pollutants into the air. The pollutants that you breathe in while mowing the lawn can be dangerous to your health as well. So if you are seriously considering going green, you may want to get an eco-friendly lawn mower.

There are several different types of eco-friendly lawn mowers available. It would be wise to shop around a bit first to gain an idea of what type would be best for you and your budget. There are several factors you may want to take into consideration before making your purchase such as whether you prefer a push mower or riding lawn mower. The size of your lawn is usually a deciding factor.

One of the most eco-friendly and inexpensive mowers is a reel mower. Although they may seem old fashioned, reel mowers are actually better for the environment. Generally, they do not have a motor so there are no gas emissions to pollute the air. This type of mower is better for the grass and it cuts out loud noise as well. If using a reel mower, it is best to mow the lawn frequently since reel mowers are slower and do not perform as well on tall grass or weeds. Most of these mowers are lightweight and relatively easy to push. A reel mower of this type may not be suitable if you have a large amount of grass to keep cut. There are gas and electric models of this type of mower but of course, the electric version would be the better choice.

Electric lawn mowers come with cords or without cords. Whether you choose a cordless model or one with a cord depends on your individual preference as well as the size of your lawn. Corded models are less expensive than cordless electric mowers but dragging a cord along throughout a large yard can be inconvenient. Cordless varieties offer more convenience since they are powered by batteries and usually run for 45 to 60 minutes. This is usually enough time to mow a medium-sized lawn. Electric lawn mowers and standard reel models provide a better, healthier way to mow the lawn since they do not pollute the air with harmful emissions.

Standard push mowers can be purchased for $100.00 or less. Although costs vary, a cordless, electric push mower can average between $250 to $500.00 in price. That’s not a bad deal when you consider the amount of money you spend on gas for your gasoline powered mower. By changing the way you cut grass, you’ll be doing yourself and the environment a favor. You won’t be breathing in those harmful pollutants while mowing the lawn or polluting the air. If you choose to switch to a reel mower without a motor, mowing the lawn will become an exercise routine rather than just a chore. Regardless of the model you choose, just remember to choose eco-friendly.
