Years ago, those who were alchemists spent most of their lives trying to turn metal into gold. While the medieval philosophy takes us all the way back to the Middle Ages, World of Warcraft has given you the opportunity to use this as your primary profession. If learning to make gold doesn’t build alliances, being able to make elixirs definitely will. However, there are many more benefits you will find throughout this guide.
Before we get started though, you have to find a trainer in order to learn this profession. We understand you may want to figure everything out by yourself, but since this could literally take months we’ll give you a few pointers to get started. The first thing to do is provide you with a list of the various places you can find an Alchemy Trainer. The are twenty in all which are listed below.
Finding an Alchemy Trainer
There are several different locations to locate an Alchemy Trainer. You can find one in Darnassus, Elwynn Forest, Orgrimmar, Ironforge, Hillsbrad Foothills, Swamp of Sorrows, The Exodar, Stormwind City, Durotar, Undercity, Loch Modan, Stranglethorn Vale, Feralas, Teldrassil, Ashenvale, Azuremyst Isle, Tirisfal Glades, Silvermoon City, Dustwallow Marsh, and Thunderbluff. So you can imagine they are pretty easy to locate.
One thing to note about locating an Alchemy Trainer is it is much easier to simply ask a guard in each of the major cities. Once you do this you can check your map where a flag puts a distinction of the exact spot you can get a hold of one. In the beginning you will start out as an apprentice. Then as time passes and your skill level becomes bigger, you will be able to move up as a Journeyman, Expert, Artisan, and then finally a Master Alchemist.
The Apprentice (Level 5/Skill 1-75)
Let’s face it, utilizing the skills of a simple apprentice is definitely not as fun as being a master. However, there is always a starting point to everything and with this Alchemist experience you can only make potions that are as high as 75 skill level points. One point we need to stress before we get deeper into this profession is you are going to need herbs which can be found with the Herbalism profession. While it is not mandatory, we do recommend you use your this as your other primary profession.
After you are ready to mix potions together, you will need flasks to put them in, either for yourself or someone else. In all there are four different flasks you can use (Crystal, Empty, Imbued, and Leaded). The good news is, it doesn’t matter where you are because you can make potions in any location. The bad news? Until you move up to the next skill level (Journeyman) between 50-150 you will only be able to mix the basic potions.
Unfortunately you will only start out with three available recipes (Minor Defense, Minor Healing, and Lion’s Strength). Even though each one isn’t anything to write home about, it will allow you to find others within the World of Warcraft land to become friends with and build alliances. It only takes a couple seconds to make each one, but you must have the proper ingredients to make them happen.
When making whatever it is you are trying to make, there will be a section that shows you all the ingredients you have right now. If something is shaded then you are out of luck until you acquire it. Your initial quest to making elixirs, oils, or potions might take some time. However, once you begin to understand it all you will notice different color coded recipes. There is a reason for this which we will explain below.
Finding the Right Colors
Overall there are four different types of colored recipes. If you need to make a recipe that is colored Gray, you cannot increase your Alchemist skill. In fact, even if you make a Green recipe the chances of increasing anything is very slim (However it does happen occasionally). Your best bet if you need to increase skill is to work on Yellow and Orange recipes. The first one will give you a good chance of increasing your skill, but an Orange one always helps the cause.
During your journey there are a few different ways to get your hands on some recipes. While most of them will come from the Alchemy Trainers in various locations, you can also receive them from other places. The most common are from mobs you end up killing and they leave you with one. If you are more involved in the treasure hunt side of things you can find more when opening up chests around the land.
If you really want to get the 411 on different recipes, meet up with some other Alchemists during your adventure. Many people playing the World of Warcraft game are friendly and will help you possibly asking for a favor in return or gold. One thing to stash away for future reference is if you engage in combat it will take you out of the creating a recipe if you are currently working on one.
More to Come
Listen, we could give you all the information right now, but all you would end up doing is reading forever. Instead, take advantage from the information we gave you above and when you are ready to learn more or have peaked your experience from here, it will be time to move up. Most importantly have some fun with it. There is a rumor going round that you can create your own mixtures that make special secret potions, oils, and elixirs. While this remains to be seen, it is still something you may be able to do in the near future.
